It is the calculated endpoint of late-stage economic optimization. The supposed narrative of progress is just the mechanism for distributing mass joblessness.

The current system only requires human labor until the cost of automated replacement is cheaper than keeping a person employed. This entire mechanism screams pure capital efficiency. The concept of human worth in the modern market has been reduced to its lowest possible common denominator.

The displacement is sweeping across every single sector imaginable. It is not confined to factory floors or call centers. The writing desks the data entry points and middle management scheduling roles are all flagged for elimination. Gurley’s warning is simply the accounting ledger detailing the necessary write-down of human assets.

The coming collapse brings specific garbage with it. Corporations will rename mass layoffs as “restructuring.” Specialized human expertise will be replaced by opaque black-box models. The only expectation is that the displaced worker will simply “upskill” into a role that is less meaningful and more precarious.
